This autumn in the town of Bankya opened the first of its kind "smart" school in Bulgaria, combining care for the environment with completely new teaching methods. In order to respond to the ever-changing changes in the world around us, requiring constant self-actualization, as well as the need for education that puts the child's personality first, the school is designed as a complex system ready to provide everything necessary to build a complete personality.

Philosophy

The school is named after the French philosopher and educator of the 18th century - Denis Diderot. He was the first person to insist that education be accessible to all, not just children of noble families. He is an advocate of the so-called progressive education that encourages students to explore and develop their abilities and talents not only in certain sciences but also in the arts and sports. These ideas are embedded in the goals of the newly opened school - to create talents, discoverers, self-thinking individuals who are aware of their strengths and are honest and responsible to themselves and others.

Ecology

The main focus of the educational process is educating children from an early age in love of nature and ways to protect the environment. With problems such as the carbon footprint and climate change as a result of human activity on earth, such an approach is imperative and can prevent many future catastrophes. Because education in basic values is built in the early years and lasts a lifetime.

School environment

It is no coincidence that the school is located in the town of Bankya, at the foot of Lyulin Mountain. The city is famous for its healing mineral water, it is surrounded by nature and the fresh air is intoxicating. On an area of 6000 square meters is the main building, gym, dance hall, swimming pool, two libraries offering many books and the opportunity to hold classes in literature among books, music hall, art room and modern classrooms with modern furniture and non-standard arrangement of tables, own kitchen. In the yard there are sports fields, a running track, a small amphitheater.

The building fully meets the modern requirements for energy efficiency. It is made of wood, stone and glass, and is equipped with an ozonation system that reduces carbon emissions. The entrance foyers are glazed on three levels, which creates a feeling of togetherness. A photovoltaic system for electricity production is installed on the roof. It covers 40% of electricity needs. Solar collectors supply the building with hot water. An irrigation system has been built, working with rainwater, and during the dry months - with drilling.

Teaching methods

The learning process is tailored to the individuality of each child. Teachers look after each child's personal interests and talents to encourage them to develop their full talents. One class consists of 15 children, for whom two teachers are responsible. So you can work individually with each of them to address the difficulties. The children have group activities and individual ones. Students are not graded, but feedback is required. Children are brought up with respect for others and tolerance. For this purpose, one class includes children from different ethnic groups, as well as children with special educational needs.

The school day starts at 9 am and ends at 16 pm, and the program includes both classes - theory and practice, as well as sports and cultural events, eating time and free time for play. The main skills that are developed are: curiosity, active search, research and analysis, critical thinking, drawing conclusions and making decisions.
