Vaptsarov is not like the other great Bulgarian poets of his time. It is a completely foreign adaptation to him. He does not seek to dissolve into any collective. It does not fit into any literary trends and trends. It does not abstain from writing manifests, poems, translations or intellectual pursuits. He is out of these circles. He is not among the intelligentsia, defining himself as a "Fire Intelligent".
As he notes, judging from his biography, Petko Totev: “Vaptsarov is a real worker. This is not the poet who came temporarily among the workers to study and describe their lives. He works hard physical labor to nourish himself and his family while his vocation, poetry, by virtue of circumstances, remains in the background. . This is probably due to his firm nature.
"I will never please people just to please them. Never. And if it will cost me all my happiness. "(From a letter from 1931 to his parents)
It must be quickly stated that Vaptsarov is not rude, has not concentrated his attention on the material, and for him his personal interest is in the background. He lives for ideas and his ideals, but does not "split the basma" to anyone.
His father is known to be a ruthless man, from whom Bansko and its surroundings tremble. For his dad, as a young cadet at the Naval School, Nikola Vaptsarov will write in his notebook: "Tekyo had returned the comet, may God forgive him." Ferdinand, to Yavorov and to Ivan Mikhailov. You spoke to "you" with the King, they say that before the start of the Inter-Allied War (1913), he sent him a telegram with the following text: "Ferdinand, if you bring Bulgaria into this war, a black cat will cross the road between us." In Bansko there was an expression: "Where is Tsare, there is also Vaptsare." They called Yonko - "Pirin king".
And to this fearsome man, to this old comet, his weak son dared to fight. During a school recital of poems at the local community center, instead of performing his assigned poem, Nikola stirred up the spirits, reciting Hristo Botev's "Fight". The father became so angry with this action that he was given a "cruel, brutal punishment" (according to memories of his mother Elena Vaptsarova). Probably this beating was the reason why little Nicholas was wrapped in sheepskin to save his life.

The Vaptsarov family
When it comes to Truth, Nikola Vaptsarov always had the courage to say it, did not bend his back in front of anyone, was not afraid of any danger, neglected that because of telling and in defense of the Truth, he could not be "settled in life" later. This is evidenced by his behavior during his graduation when he was selected to deliver a speech on behalf of the graduates. "Mr. Captain, gentlemen officers and teachers. It's been six years and we're leaving. There was no trace of that childhood enthusiasm that each of us carried. Everything has collapsed. We are leaving and some of us will go under the joyless haunt of unemployment, and the rest will impose compromises that will be crucial for their entire lives, but they cannot be chosen - they will be compromises for bread. " Word on the occasion of the graduation of the 26 issue of the Naval Mechanical Engineering School)
And perhaps the most interesting thing about his case is his personality, which Katya Zografova notes. Nikola Vaptsarov is the "paradoxical legislator of faith" in Bulgarian literature after the First World War. His Truth is established in the path of his rebellion against hypocritical orders and against injustice. His Faith is the bearer of Truth.
"Maybe you want to
to defeat her
my faith
in the days of happy,
my faith,
that tomorrow will be
life is better,
life wiser? And how will you storm, please?
With bullets?
No! Inappropriate!
Resto! - Not worth it! -
It is armored
firmly in the chest
and armor-piercing cartridges
for her
no found!
No found! "(" Faith ")
Vaptsarov is a denial of the modernist posture, of negation, of conquest, of quiet sadness and humility. His songs are not MOTOR, but MOTOR. It deals with current themes of reality, dismissing with contempt the imaginary world inhabited by the Symbolists. It is against whining and hopelessness. Because his Faith only survives thanks to the Hope that there is another way. He reproaches the opportunists, quietly mourning and despondent:
"You still live with your distant, lost mirage. You do not feel that peace is only illusory. Now it's even an insult to me to walk with hollow sadness, to whine…
More importantly, as Petko Totev points out: “Vaptsar's faith in itself is wonderful with its universality and sincerity, with its spontaneous youthful pursuit of captivating humanism. But the VAPCAR faith on the background of the notorious BULGARIAN skepticism is TWO MORE beautiful. "
There are no impossible things for Vaptsarov in front of the Man who fights for good, for righteousness and for love.
"We are in a strife with life,
but you don't understand
that I hate life.
On the contrary, on the contrary! -
Even if I was dying,
life with the rough
paws steel
i will love again!
I will love again! "
However, Vaptsarov is not a sectarian. We should not look upon him as some cruel man, eager to achieve his own at all costs. He is ready for dialogue with the dissenters, even his abusers. This is exactly what the Song for Man shows us.
"We are arguing
two with a lady
on the topic:
"The Man in Modern Times."
And the lady snaps, you know -
path, nervous,
even crying.
It floods me with muddy streams
from the roar
and a city of verbal
attack.
"Wait," I say, "wait,
let…
But she interrupts me angrily:
- Oh, please, stop it!
I hate the man.
It is not worth your protection. "(" A song for man ")
The poet-humanist remains utterly uncompromising against the dehumanization of man - even when it is objectively inevitable in the face of a gigantic historical confrontation of antagonistic ideologies. and as sent to us, the increasingly disillusioned (and ferocious) descendants:
"And then… after
some hatred
he was deep in his heart.
Like gangrene,
no, like leprosy
chia went up,
digging the soul,
it weaved its cruel nets
of emptiness
and grim hopelessness,
she was dancing in the blood,
she howled with the law,
and it was early, it was very early… "
Like Botev, Vaptsarov, in his work, manages to see his future death, which is actually a sacrifice in the name of ideals. The only answer remains the question of whether people should be forcibly forced into happiness.
"It is clear to me as if it will be doubted -
we will break the ice with our heads.
And the sun on the horizon
dark,
yes, why
brightly
the sun
will enlighten.
And let it be like a butterfly small
my wings
grazed the most.
I will not curse,
I will not fight,
because after all, I know
will die.
But to die when
is shaken
The Earth
from your poison
mold,
when millions are resurrected,
this is song,
yes, that's a song! "
People with pure consciousness never disappear
