Photography for children, parents and adults 

 

As part of the Watching Understanding program, the Goethe-Institut and the Art-Cases and Documents Foundation offer tours, photo workshops for children and parents, and visits for the elderly at the exhibition of legendary photographer Sibyl Bergemann at the Sofia City Art Gallery. The main event in the program is the lecture of the art critic Dr. Katerina Gadjeva at the Goethe-Institut on March 16.

 

Understanding Watching: Sybil Bergeman

Educational program for the exhibition "Sybile Bergemann. Photos “at ifa - Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen in SGHG, 1.03. - 10.04.2022

 

Saturday March 12th, is the first of family photo studios in the framework of "Watching with understanding", led by Maria Valkova. They are designed for children between 7 and 12 years and their parents. The starting time is 11:00 am, the theme is "Portrait" and the place is SGHG. During the workshop the children will get acquainted with the work and approach of Sybil Bergeman and will learn more about portrait photography. In the practical part, children and parents will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of portraits by standing in front of or behind the lens.

In Tuesday, March 15th, the regular tours in the exhibition with the art critic Jeni Decheva continue. This time the tour is intended for people of retirement age, engaging this audience in cultural life is one of the main missions of the Understanding Watch program. Participation is completely free for retirees.

 

The program continues the next day, March 16th, with the main emphasis in it, namely the lecture of Dr. Katerina Gadjeva at the Goethe Institute. Gadjeva is an art critic and one of the most established researchers of Bulgarian photography. In her lecture she will start from the exhibition and the work of Sybil Bergeman to review the female presence in photography in Bulgaria, Germany and around the world. 

"Sybil Bergeman. Photographs ”is an exhibition of the ifa-Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, presented in Sofia by the Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and the Sofia City Art Gallery.

During the workshop the children will get acquainted with the work and approach of Sybil Bergeman and will learn more about portrait photography. In the practical part of our meeting, children and parents will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of portraits, standing in front of or behind the lens. In an improvised studio we will all experiment together, inspired by photographs in the exhibition.

 

19.03., 11:00 –12: 30 h. // Topic "The Man and the City" (in Sofia City Art Gallery and outdoors)

The studio will begin with a short tour of the exhibition, in which we will pay special attention to the portraits in an urban environment in the work of Sybil Bergeman. We will discuss the difference between fashion and street photography. In the second part we will walk in the area of ​​the gallery and we will simultaneously enter into the role of photographers and models, working actively with the urban environment.

 

26.03., 11:00 –12: 30 h. // Theme “Urban still life” (in Sofia City Art Gallery and outdoors)

What makes a photo memorable, despite the absence of people in it? We will take a look at Sibyl Bergeman's exhibition together, focusing on urban photography.

In the second part of the studio we will walk in the area around the Sofia City Art Gallery, looking for intriguing places and elements of the city to save with the means of photography.
